Both countries had been suspended from Paralympic competition since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022.
According to Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) President Pavel Rozhkov, the IPC has demonstrated the importance of protecting the rights of athletes. He emphasized that since 2022, the entire Russian Paralympic movement has been seeking a fair solution for its athletes, who have been unable to take part in international competitions.
With the IPC’s decision, Russian Paralympic athletes will be able to compete at the Paralympic Games and other IPC-governed sporting events under their national flag, anthem, and other Russian national symbols.
The 2026 Paralympic Games are scheduled to be held in Italy.
