"2021 will be the year of opportunity for Vietnam," said Singapore’s Straits Times on Thursday. The article states that 2021 may be a breakthrough for Vietnam to accelerate production as factories in the region remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic while demands for technology, healthcare, and other products keep increasing. Vietnam’s ability to contain the pandemic has helped its economy to surpass those of other Asian countries in 2020. Vietnam is expected to achieve an average annual GDP growth of 7% over the next five years with a goal of accelerating industrialization and modernization, and becoming a developing country with modern industries, an upper middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2045.

Other newspapers including the Australian Financial Review cited Vietnam’s favorable conditions such as its stability, open economy, and investors’ confidence.

Reuters ran an article about the ongoing 13th National Party Congress of Vietnam, saying the country, which is considered a bright example in fighting the pandemic, is facing another outbreak. According to Reuters, Vietnam has seen a skyrocketing number of new cases and is preparing for worse developments in the next few days. Reuters affirmed that despite the difficulties, the Party and Government of Vietnam have taken drastic measures to prevent the new outbreak from spreading. Vietnam’s measures to contain the epidemic have proved effective, making it an example for fighting the COVID-19 pandemic in the region.
