The Government of India, under its Operation Sadbhav (Goodwill), delivered emergency relief supplies to Vietnam on Sunday to support communities in northern provinces affected by typhoon Yagi.

A plane delivered 35 tons of  water filters, blankets, mosquito nets, kitchen utensils, solar lamps, and other essentials worth 1 million USD.

Sandeep Arya, India’s Ambassador to Vietnam, formally handed over the relief supplies to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s National Disaster and Dyke Management Authority and representatives of Tuyen Quang province.

The Government of India says its humanitarian support for Vietnam is a testament to the enduring close ties between the two countries, marked by their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Operation Sadbhav is part of India’s contribution to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief in the ASEAN region, in line with its longstanding Act East Policy.

Another 10 tons of supplies including generators, water filters, toiletries, mosquito nets, blankets and sleeping bags were handed over to the Lao government.

Typhoon Yagi is considered Asia's most powerful storm this year, having devastated a large area of southern China, northern Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar last week.
