The festival celebrated the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, 50 years of India-Vietnam diplomatic relations, India’s Presidency of G20 and the International Year of Millets. ‘Millets’ were among the first crops to be cultivated in India, with evidence of its consumption during the Indus valley civilization 4000 years ago. 2023 is the International Year of Millets, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly.

500 guests, including the Indian community and Vietnamese friends, joined the festival.

Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya said India Day is modeled after a traditional Indian festival called Mela. It is an event for communities to gather together, share cultural and culinary experiences, and learn from each other. This is also a way to connect the people of India and Vietnam, he added.
