During a media briefing on the BRICS summit in Russia, Vikram Misri said the agreement is the first step toward pulling back troops from both sides along the LAC. After this, India and China will work to resolve issues that have arisen since their troops clashed in Eastern Ladakh in June 2020. This is seen as an important move to reduce border tensions and could lead to a meeting between the leaders of India and China at the upcoming BRICS Summit, Misri said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the BRICS summit on Tuesday. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also scheduled to attend the event.
