(VOVWORLD) - An incense offering and garland dropping ceremony was held on Sunday in Da Nang to commemorate 64 soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy who laid down their lives while defending the Fatherland at Gac Ma Island in the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago of Vietnam, on March 14, 1988.

Nguyen Van Tan, Head of the Traditional Liaison Department of Truong Sa Soldiers from 1984 to 1988, said the brave sacrifices of the martyrs have made the yellow page of the Navy's history shine more brightly in the heroic history of the Vietnam People's Army.

Da Nang city has a road named Truong Sa running along the city's coast, showing the great gratitude for those who died on Gac Ma island and affirming Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes belong to Vietnam.

At the ceremony, relatives of martyrs, veterans, and soldiers who worked and fought in Truong Sa archipelago spent a minute of silence, offered incense, and dropped flowers on the Han River to pay tribute to the martyrs.
