Identifying opportunities and challenges in Vietnam’s industrial development

(VOVworld) – A seminar on Vietnam’s industrial development policies until 2035 was organized in Hanoi on Saturday by the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the World Bank. Vietnamese and foreign experts examined Vietnam’s policies on industrial development and lessons learned for Vietnam.

Vietnamese and foreign experts examined Vietnam’s policies on industrial development and lessons learned for Vietnam.

They also analyzed Vietnam’s industrial policies in the process of industrialization and modernization, globalization, the formation of the ASEAN community in late 2015, and signed and to be signed free trade agreements.  Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said Vietnam signed 10 FTAs and will sign another 8 agreements this year, possibly including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Vietnam is scheduled to sign 20 FTAs from now to 2020 and it’s important to identify opportunities and challenges to have appropriate policies on industrial development to 2025 and vision to 2035. Mr. Hai said: “Vietnam’s industry has grown rapidly so the protection of intellectual property rights will become a motivation for industrial development. In order to improve national creativity or the industrial sector, we must pay attention to policy to protect intellectual property rights.”

Recommendations from economists and leaders of ministries and sectors will be summarized to feed in Vietnam’s policy on industrial development in the future.
