(VOVworld) - International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Head Yukiya Amano said Monday that he is seriously concerned about the nuclear program of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). He told the board of IAEA governors in Vienna that it has been nearly six years since agency inspectors were asked to leave the DPRK. Amano call on Pyongyang to fully comply with its obligations under relevant UN Security Council resolutions. His remarks were a reaction to Pyongyang’s launch of 2 short-range missiles, assumed to be Scud missiles, into eastern waters Monday and Pyongyang’s announced intention to retaliate for the annual joint military exercises of the Republic of Korea and the US.

6-party talks on Pyongyang’s nuclear program were initiated in Beijing, China, in August, 2003, but have been stalled since December, 2008. Pyongyang launched 3 nuclear tests in 2006, 2009, and 2013 which resulted in widespread criticism and sanctions imposed by the US and UN.
