Houston city begins to repair Harvey’s damage

(VOVWORLD) - Sylvester Turner, Mayor of Houston, Texas enacted a new curfew on Tuesday to address security problems follwing hurricane Harvey.

Turner said at a press conference, that the curfew is in effect from Tuesday to Wednesday. The curfew was approved by city authorities following severe damage to infrastructure, houses, electricity, and water supplies, which will make it difficult for citizens to resume normal life.

Houston’s Sheriff Art Acevedo said he proposed the curfew to the Mayor after receiving reports of armed robberies.

7 people died in the storm, and thousands have been evacuated. Airports, highways, and railways have been closed and 267000 people in southeast Texas are without electricity. Police and rescue teams are working to rescue people who are still trapped inside the flood zone.
