Honorary consulate of Vietnam opens Dublin

(VOVWORLD) -The Embassy of Vietnam in the United Kingdom on Tuesday opened its honorary consular office in Dublin, Ireland. The office will be in charge of protecting citizens, supporting the Vietnamese community, promoting the country and people of Vietnam in Dublin in particular and Ireland in general, and boosting bilateral multifaceted cooperation.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long said the event marks an important step to further the effective political, trade, investment, educational, scientific and technological relations between Vietnam and Ireland, contributing to deepening the friendship between the two peoples.

Congratulating Patrick Gerard McKillen, a famous Irish businessman, who takes on the role of Vietnam's first Honorary Consul in Ireland, Ambassador Long said he believes that with his long experience working in Vietnam and love for Vietnam, Mr. McKillen will surely succeed.

Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs Sean Fleming said Ireland considers Vietnam an important partner in Asia. The opening of the honorary consular office will be a major milestone in strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
