At a working session with Party leaderships of Can Tho city, Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces in Can Tho on Wednesday, the General Secretary said the merger is a historic opportunity to "redesign" a leaner, smarter and more cohesive government system.
“The new Can Tho city needs to quickly establish its role as a dynamic growth pole in the center of the Southwest sub-region, acting as a hub for trade and spreading development throughout the region. This requires the early completion of the strategic infrastructure system, especially multimodal transport, logistics, digital infrastructure, irrigation and energy to facilitate the flow of goods, services and data. Priority should be given to developing areas with comparative advantages and high added value. Special attention must be paid to social policies as well," he said.
"All people, in any area of the new province, must enjoy the fruits of development in a fair and practical manner.”

Emphasizing once again that people are the center and player of every breakthrough strategy, the General Secretary Lam said that Can Tho city can only grow strongly if it knows how to place trust and maximize every citizen’s the intellectual potential, entrepreneurship, and courage.
