These will include a workshop titled “The Mendicant Buddhist Sect: Establishment, Development and Integration” organized by HCM City’s Vietnam Buddhist Research Institute, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences’ Institute for Religious Studies and the Vietnam Mendicant Buddhist Sect. Thich Giac Toan is Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha: “This sect, established in 1944, was one of the 9 founding members of the Vietnam Buddhist Shangha. The workshop will review the sect’s contributions to Vietnamese Buddhism and discuss ways to improve its performance in a social context.”

From February 25th to March 2nd, statues of the Patriarch and Buddha will be unveiled, plus a photo exhibition about his life. A ceremony to release flower-shaped lanterns and pray for peace and well-being will be held while over 1,200 monks and nuns will go on begging rounds.
