The temple is dedicated to King Tran Hung Dao (1228-1300), the Supreme Commander of Vietnam during the Tran Dynasty, who repelled three major Mongolian invasions in the 13th century.  On the 14th day of the first lunar month a food festival was held at the Tran Thuong Temple, which stored food for King Tran Hung Dao’s soldiers during the fight against the Mongolian invaders. During the festival, about 150,000 food parcels containing corn, soy beans, and sticky rice, key staples produced by the Ly Nhan residents, were handed out to pilgrims.
