Held alongside APEC 2025 in Gyeongju, the 5-day event opened with focus on youth participation and innovation with former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, bringing generations together in climate leadership.
Hana Kuzna, a participant from Slovakia, said, “We're the future generation of this world. And it's important that we learn about the climate crisis and we can know how to take it on and how to battle this challenge sustainably."
Hosted by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the week will feature a High-Level Roundtable between the region's climate ambassadors, and an event on Wednesday which commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 2015 Paris Agreement. Since its establishment in 2012, GGGI has helped many countries develop renewable energy strategies, carbon pricing systems, and green finance plans to promote their long-term sustainable growth.
“Since 2018, we have been supporting the government in Burkina Faso, its transition towards the green economy," Dethie Soumare Ndiaye, Burkina Faso Country Representative, said. It means supporting the development of the upgrading of policies, better integrating the principle of green growth, he said, adding that it's also also about mobilizing resources, financial resources needed to implement these policies and strategies.
During the week, GGGI will sign 12 new MoUs with investors, local governments and philanthropic organizations to expand cooperation on green finance and carbon markets.
