The tasks, announced at a conference on Friday on coordination between the Government and local authorities, include promoting growth, maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, and ensuring major balances for the economy.

Other tasks focus on developing the digital, green, and circular economies; strengthening national defense and security; and promoting comprehensive foreign affairs and international integration.

Prime Minister Chinh emphasized that Vietnam achieved significant socio-economic progress last year, which will serve as the stepping stone for continued development.

According to the conference, Vietnam recorded GDP growth of 5.05% in 2023, outpacing many countries in the world. Its GDP now stands at 430 billion USD. The agricultural sector continued to be a solid pillar of the economy, growing by 3.83% last year, the highest in the past 10 years. The industrial sector recovered rapidly quarter by quarter, with a growth rate of 3.02% last year.

Prime Minister Chinh underlined the need to make sure the assessment is accurate, close to reality, and objective.

"Despite challenges, we have made important, quite comprehensive progress. But we also need to analyze and evaluate the factors behind these achievements,” he said.

Phan Van Mai, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, said, “The resilience of the macroeconomy against adverse external impacts has improved. I believe this is a significant achievement for Vietnam when compared to other countries.”
