However, the two leaders said possible talks will be hold to ease the current situation. Both Germany and the US are willing to pursue a political solution, create mutual agreement between all parties and ensure both the Ukrainian and Russian people’s interests. Merkel and Obama also agreed on their views regarding Ukraine’s issue.
Following the referendum to merge Crimea with Russia, Merkel said that Russia was still a member of G8, despite other G8 members possibly not attending the G8 Summit in Sochi, Russia, next August.
The US Permanent Representative to the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Daniel Bayer, said that all members of the OSCE had unanimously agreed not to recognize Crimea’s annexation from Ukraine.
