According to the newest survey by the Research Group Elections, the FDP would receive 10 percent of the vote (up one percent), ensuring its return to the legislative body for the first time since its electoral defeat in 2013. Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) were supported by a combined 39 percent of respondents, outdistancing Martin Schulz’s Social Democrats (SPD). German Chancellor Angela Merkel leads the ranking of important politicians.
If the survey findings prove correct, both another grand coalition between CDU/CSU and SPD, as well as an alliance between CDU/CSU, FDP and Greens would be arithmetically feasible.
