(VOVWORLD) - Protests have spread in the US following the killing of George Floyd after a white officer pressed a knee into his neck while taking him into custody in Minnesota.

In Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles and beyond, thousands of protesters carried signs that said: "He said I can't breathe. Justice for George."

The White House partially locked down on Friday as nationwide George Floyd protests spread to Washington D.C.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged with third degree murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. The arrest and charges came after three days of protests, which escalated into violence.
