(VOVWORLD) - France’s Yellow Vest protesters took to the streets for a 22nd straight Saturday, rejecting measures to be unveiled by President Emmanuel Macron next week.

Interior ministry figures put the number of demonstrators at 31,000,  higher than last week’s number of 22,300.

In Paris, the numbers were 5,000 on Saturday and 3,500 last week, though protest organizers say all the official figures are seriously underestimated. Police made 15 arrests and nearly 6,000 identity checks.

Demonstrators were barred from the Champs-Elysees avenue, the site of widespread violence during previous protests. They were the first since Macron signed into law legislation that gave security forces greater powers at demonstrations.
