(VOVWORLD) -France’s daily newspaper Le Figaro ran an article on Sunday explaining how Vietnam has limited the spread of the novel coronavirus.

With 268 infections, 198 full recoveries, and 0 fatalities, Vietnam, which borders China, where the COVID-19 originated, has set an example for Western countries in the fight against the pandemic, the article said.

It quoted Kidong Park, the World Health Organization representative in Vietnam, who said in an interview with the newspaper “Journal du dimanche” that since the first cases were reported in China, Vietnam has been alert to the threat. In mid-January, a disease response committee was established with doctors, medical researchers, and representatives from ministries and sectors, to make forecasts of the epidemic’s progression.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc declared a “war” against COVID-19 and urged the public to “fight the disease as if fighting an enemy”. The article said these measures were effective because of the public’s willing cooperation and support for the Government’s efforts.
