President Macron said during a national memorial ceremony for Samuel Paty, a teacher who was killed after showing his students caricatures of the Muslim Prophet Mohammed, that France will not give up its cartoons.
The statement triggered massive protests in many countries including Qatar, Kuwait, Iran, Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Israel. Muslims denounced cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed and called for a boycott of French products in Arab countries.
Turkish President Erdogan said his French counterpart needs a mental health check-up, which France called “unacceptable.”
