Foreign press impressed with Vietnam’s U20 debut

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam made history on Monday at the FIFA U20 World Cup in Cheonan, Korea, by winning their first-ever World Cup point with a 0-0 draw against New Zealand.

France leads group E after beating Honduras, followed by New Zealand and Vietnam with 1 point each.

An article on the FIFA website said: “Full of energy, fast and frenetic, Vietnam were clearly up for the occasion from the start. They were a constantly buzzing red swarm keeping New Zealand on their toes.”

Fox Sports Asia said Vietnam’s commitment and intensity was impressive and they played with great desire.

New Zealand’s Stuff e-newspaper said Vietnam missed a golden opportunity to win the game late  when Hoang Duc Nguyen couldn't connect with the goal at his mercy.  New Zealand Football newspaper was impressed with the number of Vietnamese fans who showed up at the Cheonan stadium, saying it felt like a home game for U20 Vietnam.
