In a report on Wednesday, Singapore’s ChannelNewsAsia said ASEAN leaders shared information and response plans and discussed ways ASEAN members can cooperate to defeat the novel coronavirus. The article quoted a call by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for ASEAN solidarity in the fight against COVID-19.
Indonesia’s Jakarta Post printed a commentary on ASEAN's pandemic efforts. The paper said that if ASEAN defeats the disease, it will affirm its prestige in the international arena and, even more importantly, increase the trust and respect of its citizens.
According to KBS in the Republic of Korea, the videoconferences discussed global cooperation in fighting the deadly virus and mitigating its economic impacts. The broadcaster underscored South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s advocacy for strengthening regional healthcare cooperation, maintaining global supply chains, and promoting cooperation among business communities.
China’s ECNS.cn reported that Prime Minister Li Keqiang attended the online ASEAN + 3 Summit, and quoted a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying that the positive results of the conference will boost cooperation and advance regional economic integration.
