Foreign diplomats praise General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's role in modern Vietnamese history

(VOVWORLD) - Several international diplomats who have served as ambassadors to Vietnam affirm that General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, has played a significant role in Vietnam's development and achievements, both domestically and internationally.

Reflecting on General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's role in leading and strengthening the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam (1999-2004), Fredesmán Turró González, said under General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's leadership, the Party has guided the country to new and important successes in socio-economic development, setting new goals to make Vietnam a prosperous nation with a high middle-income status in the near future.

He noted that, besides his leadership role, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is also a distinguished scholar, contributing theories on Vietnam's national renewal and practical experiences during the transition to socialism.

John McCarthy, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam from 1981 to 1983, said under General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s leadership, Vietnam has demonstrated a skillful and flexible foreign policy, showcasing a genuine sense of strategic independence and autonomy.

Regarding Vietnam-Australia relations, McCarthy highlighted that during General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's tenure, Vietnam has risen to a prominent position in Australia's relationships in Asia, as evidenced by the recent decision to elevate bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He also affirmed that Vietnam has made significant and clear strides recently, with major cities experiencing remarkable growth and the economy now on par with many other economies in the region.

Similarly, Susan Boyd, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam from 1994 to 1998, praised Vietnam's expansion of relations across various fields with many countries worldwide under General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s leadership.

She noted that these expansions span politics, diplomacy, education, and the arts, contributing to Vietnam's rapid development and resulting in an increasingly improved quality of life for its people.
