The Australian military have prepared to evacuate hundreds of people. On Sunday, the ABC reported that Australian military planes will arrive in Kabul as early as this week to begin the evacuation process in coordination with US and British security forces. Those to be evacuated will include Afghan interpreters and contractors who served in Australian military operations.
According to the Czech News Agency (ČTK), after an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council on Saturday evening (local time), the Czech Republic decided to evacuate diplomats, embassy staff and their families out of Kabul.
The Sunday Telegraph reported the British ambassador left Afghanistan on Sunday evening, after British troops evacuated most of the British diplomats and other staff. According to the Sunday Telegraph, by Saturday night, only ten British officials and diplomats remained in Afghanistan, down sharply from about 500 people earlier this week.
Afghan officials announced on Sunday morning that Taliban forces has taken control of Jalalabad, an important city in the east of the country without fighting. A Western security source confirmed the city's fall.
