At the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the operation of Vietnam’s first liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired power plants has laid the foundation for the country’s gas power market and marks an important milestone in building a flexible, clean, stable, and modern national energy system with optimized investment, advanced technology, high capacity, and competitive electricity prices.
The Prime Minister said the project reflects a fundamental shift in Vietnam’s approach to green, sustainable, and modern energy. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 40% compared with coal-fired power and 30% compared with oil-fired power, supporting the transition from traditional fossil fuels to cleaner energy sources.
The Nhon Trach 3 and 4 power plants have a total investment of approximately 1.4 billion USD and use GE’s 9HA.02 gas turbines, among the most advanced and efficient in the world. With a combined capacity of about 1,624 MW, the complex is expected to supply more than 9 billion kWh of electricity annually.
