(VOVworld) - The fifth ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus closed in Da Lat yesterday/ on Monday. The two-day meeting finalized a report on the implementation of the 33rd AIPA General Assembly Resolution and debated issues relating to green growth and poverty reduction for sustainable development.

It affirmed that ASEAN parliamentarians have played an important role in legislation and law making and integrated international commitments into their countries’ laws in a bid to harmonize the ASEAN legal system. ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh praised AIPA’s contributions to accelerating legislative initiative and policies in the region. Minh said: “Our desire is to improve the living standard of more than 600 million people in the region while maintaining the natural ecosystems, which requires efforts and cooperation of all related sides. I am very optimistic this AIPA Caucus will contribute greatly to promoting legislative and policy making initiatives in the region and to suggesting the best possible solutions to green growth and poverty reduction for sustainable development.”
Tran Van Hang, Head of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Affairs, and President of the fifth AIPA Caucus, said that the recommendations and proposals at the meeting will be submitted to the 34th AIPA General Assembly in Brunei. Hang said: “Attending and actively contributing their opinions at this meeting has shown the concern of all AIPA members on the issue of green growth and poverty reduction. Recommendations and proposals at the meeting will be submitted to the 34th AIPA General Assembly in Brunei, strengthening the legislation and law making process for sustainable development in the coming time. It will also contribute to successfully building an ASEAN community toward peace, cooperating, and growth for the people in the region.”
The sixth AIPA Caucus will be held in Brunei in either April or May 2014.
