The FT citied the experts as saying that the US’s departure will remove the WHO’s biggest source of funds, damaging its ability to respond to public health crises such as the coronavirus pandemic.
Lawrence Gostin, professor of global health at Georgetown Law, said that the plan to withdraw “on day one” will be catastrophic for global health, adding that there will be very lean years for the WHO to struggle to respond to health emergencies and will have to reduce its scientific staff considerably.
