The workshop brought together representatives from the Vietnam Environment Administration, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation. Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Environment Administration Nguyen The Dong said that because Vietnam is suffering from socio-economic development pressure, environmental pollution is a major problem. The workshop encouraged organizations to tighten their cooperation in keeping mercury pollution in Vietnam under control. The participants also discussed related issues and proposed activities to control mercury emissions that focused on  the thermo-electricity and gold mining sectors.
