Under the Nguyen Dynasty in 19th century, the national capital was moved to Hue, but soon after the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was established in 1945, Thang Long became the capital again with the new name Hanoi.

Hanoi has remained the capital city of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from when the country was reunified in 1975.

"The eternal capital" exhibition will run through the end of this month.
