German Chancellor Angela Merkel
(VOVworld) – Leaders of 19 Eurozone countries met on late Sunday to negotiate whether to rescue Greece from its current debt crisis or let it leave the Eurozone. This has been the 3rd Eurozone summit on Greece over the past 2 weeks. German Chancellor Angela Merkel told the press ahead of the meeting that there would be no agreement with Greece at any cost, signalling difficulties for coming talks. Earlier, Germany proposed that Greece leave the Eurozone in 5 years if it refused to implement reform and austerity measures. French President Francois Hollande maintains his viewpoint of not letting Greece leave the eurozone which is supported by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. Renzi said Greece’s exit from the eurozone would cause huge consequences on the bloc. Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said he came to the summit with a goodwill to negotiate and that an agreement could be reached by Sunday night if all parties wished to.
