(VOVworld) - The British parliament on Thursday agreed to extend the voter registration deadline for the EU referendum by 48 hours despite objections by Brexit proponents that this will benefit the opposition.

The deadline was extended to midnight Thursday because the government registration website broke down during a last-minute rush to register late Tuesday evening. The referendum on UK membership in the European Union will take place on June 23.
