(VOVWORLD) - EU leaders on Thursday pledged their continued economic, military and political support for Ukraine, but warned that the EU would not be able to fully fill any funding gap left by the United States, at the meeting of the European Political Community (EPC) in Granada, Spain.

In a statement after the meeting, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany is working on supplying an additional Patriot air defense missile system to Ukraine during the winter months. However, he said that his country will ensure that there is no escalation of the war but that Germany itself will not become part of the conflict.

So far, EU and its member states have pledged 100 billion USD in support for Ukraine, including arms supplies for years to come.
