Ms Kocijancic told reporters that the EU regrets that the German Ambassador to Venezuela was asked to leave Venezuela.
The Venezuelan government on Wednesday ordered the German ambassador to leave the country after he expressed support for Juan Guaido, escalating a diplomatic standoff with a group of about 50 nations that recognize the opposition leader as the country’s interim president. The government said it is unacceptable for diplomat to take on “a public role more appropriate to a political leader” and gave Martin Kriener 48 hours to leave Venezuela.
The same day, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said Berlin was recalling the Ambassador for consultations. Maas called Venezuela's decision "inexplicable."
