(VOVworld) – Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said Belgium is facing a new security situation, particularly following recent terror attacks.

In a press conference in Brussels on Sunday, he said the new security risks are threatening Belgium and Europe as a whole and thanked the police force for dealing with the Saturday machete attack in Charleroi in which two female police officers were seriously injured. The Algerian attacker, who had lived in Belgium since 2012, was shot by the police. IS claimed responsibility for the attack. Belgian police is conducting investigations to identify whether or not it was a terror attack.
