EU committed to reaching trade deal with US

(VOVWORLD) -The EC remains fully committed to constructive and focused efforts to reach an EU-US trade deal, and that EU and US officials will stay in constant contact, EU Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic said on X following a phone call on Monday with US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer.

The EC has represented all 27 member states in negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement with Washington, although little progress has been made so far.

Last Friday, President Trump said trade talks with the EU were going nowhere and announced a 50% tariff on the EU starting June 1.

After talking with EC President Ursula von der Leyen on Sunday, Trump postponed the date to July 9. The EU is still subject to a 10% tariff that Trump imposed last month on imports from almost every country in the world.
