During a speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Von der Leyen said the proposed AI group should be similar to the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) panel, whose reports establish scientific consensus on climate change. 

She said she believes a similar body is needed for AI – to assess the risks and benefits for humanity, which will allow us to develop a fast, globally-coordinated response.
