During his last session at the summit, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said Britain and the EU should maintain a close economic relationship and reform is one of the key factors. Cameron announced his resignation and said the UK government is expected to announce his successor in September. He said he would not be the PM to file Article 50, a job would fall to his successor.

On Wednesday, the EU held the second session without Cameron to discuss the ways to maintain the unity within the EU.

European Council President Donald Tusk said that the EU is willing to begin talks with the UK on Brexit. He said the EU will hold another meeting in Bratislava, Slovakia, in September to discuss the European Union's future following Brexit. He said the talks will begin after the UK announces its leaving.
