To qualify for the August 23 debate, candidates needed to satisfy polling and donor requirements set by the RNC: at least 1% in three high-quality national polls or a mix of national and early-state polls, between July 1 and Aug. 21, and a minimum of 40,000 donors, with 200 in 20 or more states.

Former US President Donald Trump refused to sign Republican loyalty pledge to participate in the debate.

The latest CBS News poll showed that Former President Trump has taken the lead over Republican candidates with 62% of likely GOP voters, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 42%.

The second debate for the Republican nomination for president is scheduled to take place on September 27.
