In an announcement on Facebook late Thursday, Sisi said that the decision aimed to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian residents in the enclave.

Sisi's announcement comes after some 60 Palestinians were killed and 2,700 others injured by Israeli fire on the Gaza border earlier this week. It was considered the bloodiest violence in the region over recent years.
