The competition received 200 entries depicting architectural structures such as the Temple of Literature Gate, the Pavilion of Constellation, and doctor steles, with dragon, phoenix, and turtle motifs, from students at art and design schools nationwide.

After a preliminary and final round, 17 works were selected for awards.

Painter Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam won the special prize for her painting “The trace of time”. Tam said: "The contest’s theme was ‘Echoes of History’ so I painted something related to the history of the Temple of Literature. I noticed a dragon motif on the corner of Khue Van Pavillion, a symbol of Hanoi, which had been damaged over time. It was quite a challenge to capture the details of the ancient dragon. I had to use special paints to achieve the right effect.”
