th member of the Union of European Football Associations. At a press briefing in Brussels, Dimitris Avramopoulos
, EU Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, highlighted the importance of visa exemptions for the people of Kosovo and expressed his hope that the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament will soon approve the proposal. He said visa-free travel to the EU would strengthen business, social, and cultural ties with the EU.

Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia in 2008 and its independence has been recognized by 100 countries, including 23 out of 28 UN states. Kosovo is not yet a UN member.
