(VOVWORLD) - The European Commission (EC) said it will extend the yellow card warning on Vietnam’s seafood until next January and offered 39 recommendations to help Vietnam fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development asked agencies and sectors to strengthen fisheries management and create a real transformation of the whole system of marine exploitation management. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, said: “We need to resolve 4 major problems: fine-tuning a legal framework for fighting illegal exploitation, strengthening the monitoring of fishing vessels and production control, controlling the shipping of frozen seafood to Vietnam’s ports, and strictly punishing violations.”
