(VOVworld) - The Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University recently hosted a seminar featuring the topics of Vietnam and the East Sea disputes.

East Sea issue discussed in Canberra

The event drew the participation of numerous lecturers, scholars and international students interested in recent developments in the region. At the roundtable discussion, Do Thanh Hai, a Vietnamese postgraduate in Australia presented the main results of his research thesis, clarifying the historical and legal foundations for Vietnam’s claims over sovereignty and territorial waters, and explains the nation’s approach to management and dispute resolution in the East Sea  during the period 1991- 2011. The participants touched upon a broad array of issues relating to the situation as well as Vietnam’s measures in response. The seminar showed Australian academic keen interest in the regional situation and Vietnam's approach to the East Sea issue.
