Cat Ba-Long Chau Island bids to become World Natural Heritage Site |
The authorities of Haiphong City and the National Heritage Council have approved the application for UNESCO recognition of the Cat Ba-Long Chau Archipelago as a World Natural Heritage Site. Bui Trung Nghia, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City, says some details of the dossier will be revised vbefore submission to the Prime Minster. The proposal is scheduled to be sent to UNESCO by the end of this month. Cat Ba Archipelago’s 367 islands boast abundant natural resources and high biodiversity. The islands have virgin forests, limestone mountains, bays, clean beaches, and caves, making them ideal for tourism. The islands have already been recognized as a world biosphere reserve.
