Meanwhile, Vientiane May highlighted the Vietnamese army’s feats of arms in the campaign hailing their historic importance in defeating the old colonialism in Indochina and opening a new period for oppressed nations. The Vientiane Times described the victory as an important historic event in the region and the world. It said that the Dien Bien Phu triumph was crucial to the special friendship between Laos and Vietnam who were both fighting a common enemy.
