Addressing a press conference in Karachi during his visit to flood-ravaged Pakistan, Guterres said climate change caused by human activity is supercharging storms and catastrophes in Pakistan, and also causing terrible drought and the risk of famine in Chad and the Horn of Africa and beyond. “These countries did not cause the problem, but they’re paying the price,” he noted.
People who live in vulnerable areas, like South Asia, are 15 times more likely to die from climate impacts, according to Guterres.
