At a reception for the IAEA’s Deputy Director General Najat Mokhtar in Hanoi on Friday, Mr. Dam expressed his hope that the Agency and Ms. Mokhtar personally will continue to assist Vietnam in licensing new technological cooperative projects, human resource training, and building a center for scientific research and nuclear technology.
The guest said Vietnam is the first country she visits as IAEA Deputy Director General. Applauding the country’s achievements in nuclear energy use for peaceful purposes, Ms. Mokhtar said her working visit this time aims to learn about the application of atomic energy in socio-economic sectors in Vietnam.
The Vietnam-IAEA cooperation has flourished in recent years through technological projects in developing nuclear infrastructure in healthcare, agriculture, industry, environmental protection, food security, and climate change adaptation. Their Collaborating Centre for Water and Environment was inaugurated in Hanoi on Thursday. Its operation will focus on promoting the use of nuclear techniques for holistic water and environment assessment, monitoring and management in Vietnam, as well as broader integrated watershed and coastal area management in Southeast Asia.
