Deputy PM calls for accelerated production of drugs invented in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Addressing a meeting with ministries and sectors on special medicine purchase and use in Hanoi on Tuesday, the Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked the Ministry of Health to work with the Chambers of Commerce of the EU and the US to soon finalize a cooperative project between Vietnam and European and American drug manufacturers to strengthen drug production in Vietnam.

Le Van Phuc, deputy head of the Department for Health Insurance Policy Implementation of Vietnam Social Insurance, said that through concentrated bidding, the price of drugs has reduced by 30-40% and that Vietnam has become a country with the lowest drug price in ASEAN. He added that invented drugs will be included in the Ministry of Health’s bidding lists for further price reduction.
