Before leaving his post, Ban will attend the ball drop in Times Square, New York, on New Year’s Eve. There, he will, for the last time, calling on people around the world to work for the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Ban was sworn in as the UN Chief in 2007 and served for 2 terms. His successor is former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonia Guterres.
